First Timer's Guide to Anna Maria Island, FL

When I asked my friends on Instagram where their favorite beach vacation spot was, there was an overwhelming response for Anna Maria Island! We went, and now I understand how so many people call it their home away from home. The town is so charming, the people are friendly, the beaches are beautiful, and it has more of a neighborhood feel.

Where we stayed: One Particular Harbour
We found this condo through AirBnB, and it exceeded our expectations! Something to consider about AMI, is there are no big resort with resort-style pools or amenities. As a family, we love a balance of beach/pool time, so this rental was perfect. It's right off the island, on the Bradenton side of the bridge. We found the location to be great for us though. All the beaches/restaurants were only a 7-10 min drive.

Beaches
One of the cool things about AMI, is the beaches all have completely different vibes.
Holmes Beach: Right in the center of it all, this one seems to have the most action! Restaurants, restrooms, shops, and probably the most people.
Coquina Beach: South end of the island. Lots of trees and birds. Beautiful beach, but probably our least favorite experience. There was a lot of construction going on, and it got really crowded before noon.
Bean Point: We were super frustrated with this at first. Lol! There is literally 2 street parking spots, and no other options. Everything else is a tow zone. It took us 30 minutes to find the street parking. I'm pretty sure it was on "Fern" street. You have to walk along the road for a half mile, before coming to the public pathway to the beach. It's worth it! Absolutely gorgeous! Plan on getting here sunrise or sunset, and walking around for awhile.

Where we ate:
Gulf Drive Cafe: Right on the beach, casual vibes, average food.
Wicked Cantina: Amazing margs, good food, laid-back atmosphere. Across from the beach.
Pizza Social: Counter service, limited seating, but great pizzas!
Two Scoops: Get some ice cream after dinner, and then walk the pier!
Beach House: My favorite! Delicious drinks and food! Right on the beach. Everything came out plated nicely.
Ginny and Jane's Bakery Cafe: Huge wonderful cinnamon rolls and coffee drinks! Loved it!
The Sandbar: On the beach, we watched the sunset here! 3-hour wait. We noticed other people were putting their name in, leaving, and coming back 2-3 hours later. Great drinks and food.
Sage Biscuit Cafe: Amazing breakfast! I got the strawberry-stuffed french toast, and it was amazing!
Anna Maria Oyster Bar: Great location, and good food. Right on the marina, and you can walk around while waiting on your food. Limited seating outside.

What I would do differently next time:
If we come here again, I'd like to rent a house on the north side of the island. Some of those houses come with their own small pools, and are close to everything! Also walking distance to Bean Point Beach, which is the most secluded beach area. I also noticed all those renters had also rented golf carts for the week. You can drive your golf cart and park at all the restaurants/activities over there! It feels more like a neighborhood on that side of the island, and is safe for walkers, bikers, golf carts, etc. We also wanted to try "Donut Experiment", and never got around to it.
